The new history of German literature is published in its third, once again updated and thoroughly revised edition. It reliably presents the most important authors and works from the major epochs of German literary history in clear language and coherent text complexes. In addition to the canonical works and authors, lesser-known traditions are also acknowledged for their literary-historical significance. Emphasis is placed on the integration of the texts into their cultural, social, and international contexts. In the third edition, media-related aspects of literary production and reception across all epochs are given increased consideration. The main text is supplemented by reading recommendations for all epochs, featuring around 400 chronologically ordered work titles and an extensive scholarly bibliography.
