Everyone talks about orientation, but since Kant, there have been few attempts to define what orientation actually is. It is the most ordinary thing we deal with, the first thing from which everything originates, and the last thing to which we return, making it a philosophical question. In engaging with the great designs of philosophy, Werner Stegmaier clarifies the conditions and structures of everyday orientation, which also encompasses sexual, political, religious, and ethical orientations, thereby establishing new foundations for philosophy. The conditions for the possibility of orientation in general are clarified, as well as the conditions for orienting oneself based on other orientations in interaction and communication, and the conditions for orientation within specific orientation systems such as the economy, mass media, politics, law, science, and art.
