Product details
The murder of mentally ill individuals is one of the horrific chapters in the history of National Socialism. In Bavaria alone, 20,000 mentally ill people were murdered or died a painful, deliberately induced death by starvation. For many decades, these crimes were silenced and repressed. It is only now, as psychiatry undergoes a fundamental reform process, that efforts are being made to address the dark chapters of psychiatric history. Employees of the Bavarian district hospitals have presented a unique documentation in Germany about the events in Bavarian psychiatric institutions during the years 1933 to 1945. The results of these years of research detail how the Bavarian institutions were intricately involved in the extermination policies against mentally ill individuals.
