Product details

The question of meaning is considered a fundamental question of religion. In secular competition with it stands philosophy, with its radical critique of the reification of theological forms of discourse and of supposed meanings derived from 'sacred', supposedly untouchable values of a deity. In discussing meaning, it is by no means always about worldly purposes or even about otherworldly goals, but rather about a rational understanding of what is being discussed, about an appropriate attitude towards it, or, in the specific case of the meaning of human life, about an overall good way of living. To achieve this, the correct meaning of not immediately understandable forms of discourse and practice must be appropriately interpreted, without simply eliminating the problematic forms from existence or interpreting them too defensively. Thus, the avoidance of discussions about the soul and spirit is in favor of an ultimately merely physical understanding.
