Michael Zeuske examines the transatlantic slave trade (1450-1900) with a focus on the historical context of the Atlantic as well as the institutions and actors involved, particularly in the non-European countries of origin and destination. A key emphasis is also placed on the trade of the hidden Atlantic in the 19th century, when Europeans and Americans had already prohibited the transatlantic slave trade.
