The new edition of this volume is being published 40 years after Hanns Fischer's first edition (1960) of his Stricker volume in the Old German Text Library. This fifth edition is the best proof of the solidity of Fischer's new edition, which established its distinctive profile with the second edition (1967). Since then, this edition has become indispensable in academic instruction. At the same time, it holds a prominent place in the editorial methodology of medieval texts, as it significantly contributed to the establishment of the principal manuscript principle—paired with the publication of more divergent versions in full text.
