The novel "Wigalois" by Wirnt von Grafenberg is one of the most significant Arthurian romances of the High Middle Ages, created around 1210/20. This narrative tells the story of Wigalois, the son of Gawain, who arrives at King Arthur's court in search of his father and is accepted into the Round Table. As an Arthurian knight, he must undergo numerous trials that ultimately lead him to an ideal rule in the kingdom of Korntin. The popularity of the novel is reflected in the abundance of 41 surviving manuscripts, dating from the early 13th to the late 15th century. This new edition not only offers the Middle High German text but also a modern translation, supplemented by a commentary on specific passages and a detailed afterword with valuable insights.
