The stories from the collection "Christ Legends," published by Selma Lagerlöf in 1904, are mostly set in Judea during the Roman occupation. Other legends take place in Rome during the time of Emperor Tiberius, in medieval Florence, or even at the beginning of the world, as in "The Robin." What all the stories have in common is that they are always connected to Christ in surprising ways, without falling into the religious pathos of traditional savior legends.
