The volume contains two crime stories by Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894): "The Suicide Club," published in 1882, is a cleverly constructed tale about a London secret club whose members participate in a game that irrevocably designates one participant as the murderer and another as the victim. In contrast, the story "Markheim," from 1886, is cast in a darkly romantic light and revolves around a ghostly murder story set in a fictional city.
