Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) met the violinist Joseph Joachim (1831-1907) in 1853 through the couple Robert and Clara Schumann. A correspondence developed between them regarding musical matters as well as personal topics, lasting for 44 years until Brahms' death. The present first volume includes the correspondence from 1853 to 1863. This is a reprint of the first edition published in Berlin in 1908.
