Product details

The brutal methods used to treat the insane in the past are hardly distinguishable from the notorious procedures in the dungeons of the Middle Ages. The chains of the prison transformed into straitjackets and restraints, while asylums and mad houses evolved into healing and care institutions, ultimately leading to modern hospital departments. Traditional therapies such as rotation machines, hanging, clitoridectomy, inflicting burns, as well as cold and heat torture were followed in the 20th century by scientific treatment methods - initially, in the late 1920s and 1930s, various forms of shock therapy, and then the still-used surgical destruction of the brain through lobotomy. Starting in the 1950s, treatment with psychotropic drugs began. However, the use of so-called neuroleptics has often resulted in severe damage, even death, for patients. Meanwhile, research into mind control continues; for decades, techniques have been tested that allow access to human behavior. Dr. Huthmacher has served as chief physician, medical director, and has worked in the medical field for decades. He focuses on practices in conventional medicine that are in need of change. In Volume 1 of the series "Conventional Medicine - Blessing or Curse," he recounts the sometimes shocking history of psychiatry and provides analyses based on current research regarding the developments expected in relation to the influence on the human psyche - not only in the medical field.
