The year is 1939. Germany has just occupied Czechoslovakia. The Jewish woman Erika moves with her loyal husband to his parents' farm in Mecklenburg. The call-up order for the Eastern Front arrives, and Erwin goes to Russia. Soon, forced laborers populate the farms as helpers, without rights, often treated like cattle.
