Greek Commissioner Phaní Papadea is called from Athens to investigate a death in the southern province of Greece. The case involves a body found at the construction site of a holiday home for a German couple. Gradually, Phaní delves into the world of foreigners building in Greece, getting to know both sides: the newcomers who want to fulfill a dream and those who ruthlessly exploit the ignorance and naivety of the former. The case proves to be tougher than she had hoped, and soon not only the heat of midsummer tests her patience, but also the stubbornness of those involved. All possible motives for the murder evaporate into thin air. Additionally, ghosts from her own past emerge, which Phaní would rather not confront. All she wants is revenge.
