Most people believe that success is tied to special conditions. They see a successful entrepreneur, athlete, or politician and think, "He has a rare talent." Or: "He comes from a wealthy family." Or: "He must have stepped on others to get there." By declaring the success of others as an exception, we try to justify our own failures. Nobody wants to be a loser. It’s easier to see oneself as a victim. One is simply disadvantaged or just plain unlucky. In reality, success has nothing to do with specific advantages at the start. We all have our opportunities.
