Product details

A hundred years ago, the RMS Titanic, deemed unsinkable, struck an iceberg off the coast of Newfoundland and sank within a few hours. Around 1,500 people lost their lives in the icy depths. The name of this ill-fated luxury liner became synonymous with the delusion of technological infallibility and the resulting ignorance of the dangers of maritime travel. This theme gained tragic relevance with the disaster of the Costa Concordia. The present book, originally titled "Story of the Wreck of the Titanic," was published in 1912, just a few months after the catastrophe, by Marshall Everett and compiled from eyewitness accounts and newspaper articles. Although the main intention of this book, now appearing in German for the first time, is to glorify those involved and the survivors as heroes, the often religious undertones may seem overly emphasized from today's perspective.
