At the turn of the millennium, the US motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson began phasing out its engines from the 1980s known as the Evolution series. The newly introduced engine, named "TwinCam 88" (88ci = 1450 cm3), was a complete redesign, although the basic concept of its predecessors (air-cooled OHV V-twin with a 45° cylinder angle) was only enhanced by a second, lower camshaft (TwinCam). This generation of engines was enlarged to 96 ci in 2007 and to 103 ci (1548 and 1688 cm3) in 2010. It serves as the powertrain for the majority of the model lineup, combining great reliability, performance, and durability with the sound and appearance of classic Harley engines.
