A previously unknown side of Berlin is revealed in this new monument topography published by the Berlin State Monument Authority. The village-like areas of Tempelhof, Mariendorf, Marienfelde, and Lichtenrade are still clearly recognizable within the urban landscape of Berlin today. They exhibit a nearly rural idyll, such as Marienfelde, which has retained some of the tranquility of the 19th century, or are almost swallowed up by the metropolis, like Tempelhof. In all four villages, a village church of medieval origin points to the German settlement of the area in the 13th century. From the fieldstone church of the Knights Templar, who founded Tempelhof, to the Central Airport Tempelhof from the Nazi era, and to industrial buildings from the 1950s and churches from the 1960s, all architectural, garden, and archaeological monuments are included in this.
