The Yiddish language, found today on all continents, originated around 1000 years ago in the Jewish communities of the southern German-speaking region. Its script is based on the Hebrew alphabet. However, some letters of the Hebrew square script have been adapted in their function to the phonetic peculiarities of the Middle High German dialects and other surrounding languages on which Yiddish developed. This workbook helps you learn Yiddish print and cursive writing in simple steps and with numerous exercises, while also familiarizing you with the standardized transcription into Latin script. The book consists of seven lessons. The first six introduce six or seven letters each. Each individual letter is dedicated a double page that presents it in both print and cursive form.
