At a construction site of a French company in a West African country, a Black worker is killed by a white engineer. Alboury, a "brother" of the murdered man, comes to demand the return of the body without compromise. As he refuses to bow to the money or the guns of the whites, their complacent self-assurance increasingly crumbles. The night just before the forests is a long monologue, comparable to Céline's tirades, directed at a stranger, of whom we see and hear nothing, but who is kind enough to listen to the lonely speaker - a nameless person in a rainy night searching for a room.
