The Shakespeare translations by Angela Schanelec and Jürgen Gosch have already made theater history. They were created through a long-standing artistic collaboration between the director and the filmmaker, starting in 1997 with the new translation of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Even as Gosch celebrated his greatest theater successes, Schanelec was by his side as a translator. Legendary: the Macbeth production at the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus (Production of the Year at the Berliner Theatertreffen 2006). Through the close integration of translation work and the rehearsal process, the texts gained sharpness, playability, and directness – as was also the case with Hamlet, about which Matthias Bischoff noted in the FAZ: One of the advantages of this translation is that it makes any declamation nearly impossible. Even all the famous, overused phrases come across here so casually.
