The author examines the contemporary and diachronic perception of the memorial site 'Boxer Rebellion in China' in two European countries. This specific event had diverse social consequences for a non-European country. On one hand, the book presents a classic historical comparison between the seemingly similar memorial sites of the two countries. On the other hand, it offers an innovative comparison that includes a non-European dimension. The author highlights that the events in France are primarily interpreted as a colonial historical episode. In Germany, however, they continue to symbolize militarism in the Wilhelmine Empire to this day.
