Much has been written about the Thirty Years' War. Yet many questions remain unanswered. A "war of wars," in the sense of an accumulation of wars and types of conflict, is at the center of interest. Mental, confessional, economic, military-technical, social, and genuinely political structures are weighted as war-driving factors. The establishment problems of the modern state system, which only asserted itself between universal concepts and estate law during this war, also contributed to the prolongation of the conflict. The nationalization of war and peace was still in a transitional crisis and already revealed the weaknesses to come. Initial horizons for solutions began to emerge in 1648 in international legal norms of behavior and in the federal constitution of the German nation. However, it was also a war of wars in the sense of a myth.
