Munich 1914: While the population celebrates the hundredth anniversary of the royal body regiment, the body of a young man is found by the banks of the Isar River. The circumstances of his death are considered scandalous, and the authorities would prefer to sweep the case under the rug. However, young Commissioner Reitmeyer sets out to find the murderer against the wishes of his superiors. His investigations take him from the working-class neighborhoods to the villas of the upper class and to the infamous Café Neptun, a popular spot for officers. It is there that he stumbles upon a hot lead. Because he is legally prohibited from investigating the military, the police chief personally pressures Commissioner Reitmeyer to limit his inquiries in a murder case. Then, Reitmeyer makes an outrageous discovery that puts not only himself in jeopardy - but also directly before.
