The exorcism of Klingenberg remains remarkably present in public discourse even today, more than 30 years after the death of student Anneliese Michel. Films have been produced that explicitly draw on the events of that time, and the commissioning of exorcists makes headlines, with the case of Anneliese Michel frequently mentioned in these contexts. The present book examines the events of that time within the framework of a historical dissertation, utilizing partly new sources. In addition to recounting the events from the beginning of the exorcism (1975) to the trial at the Aschaffenburg District Court (1978), the book discusses the reactions from the church and the judiciary, as well as an analysis of headlines, comments, and depicted reader opinions from local and national press outlets, placing these events in their historical and ecclesiastical context.
