Jakob Hessing, born in 1944, taught German literature at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and regularly publishes in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and Merkur. From 1993 to 1999, he edited the Jewish Almanac. In "Three Essays on Sigmund Freud," he explores Sigmund Freud and his Jewish identity lived in Vienna at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. This book is a significant contribution to the cultural history of Central European, German-speaking Judaism, which no longer exists today.
