Product details

The genetic intervention in the heritable human genome, known as germline editing, is still not safely practicable today. For the future, this method is associated with both hopes for the elimination of severe hereditary diseases and fears of entering into genetic human breeding. In Germany, intervention in the human germline is legally prohibited. The author first addresses the question of whether the ban should still be maintained from legal and ethical perspectives, even if technological advancements eventually enable the targeted execution of germline interventions. Key focuses of this investigation are the dignity of the human being protected by the Basic Law and the 'slippery slope' or dam-break argument. Furthermore, the author presents various models for regulating germline interventions in humans at both national and international levels and discusses their advantages and disadvantages.
