Beat Sterchi is known as an author who can present his texts in an unparalleled way, with a tone that is unforgettable. In "But is there none," he showcases his texts, which are often like images: word images. Here, everything matters—the typography, the font size, every word. For example, we read "Seven Days in Venice," and below it in bold capital letters: "No car seen today," repeated seven times. Whether this refers to a fortunate circumstance or simply bad luck remains open to interpretation. However, it seems clear that it is complicated. In the tradition of "concrete poetry," Sterchi's word images reveal what the gift of language is: the words are charged with small and tiny stories, and sometimes it is enough to introduce these words to each other, to bring them together, to let them tell their stories. Opposite the word images in this volume are short poems.
