Product details
With his novel published in 1831, Victor Hugo created one of the most widely read works of world literature. The central setting is the Parisian cathedral of Notre-Dame, around which the author paints a panorama of late medieval life: Once, the archdeacon Frollo, who is regarded as a sorcerer and intriguer, took in the deformed foundling Quasimodo and made him the bell ringer. When both fall in love with the beautiful gypsy Esmeralda, a conflict arises. Although Quasimodo is able to rescue Esmeralda, who has been wrongly condemned to death by the Inquisition, from execution, he ultimately cannot prevent her fate. High atop one of the two towers of Notre-Dame, a deadly confrontation ensues between Frollo and Quasimodo.
