As the eldest son, he is expected to take on the role of the family head and mediator, resolving disputes within the village community. Leena is his best friend, a brave girl and adventurous wild child who loves her family and the great outdoors above all else. In their childhood, Anil and Leena are inseparable, but then their paths diverge. Anil leaves the village to study medicine and work as a doctor in the USA. He enjoys his new life there and falls head over heels in love with an American woman. Leena stays in India, gets married, and moves in with her husband's family. Anil's life spirals out of control: he makes a serious medical error.
