Giurlà, the son of a fisherman, loves the sea. But at the age of fourteen, his parents send him to the mountains to earn money for the family as a goat herder. At first, he is consumed by longing for the sound of the sea and the Sicilian village he left behind. However, soon the animals he tends become his friends, and the lush green meadows turn into a new home. In the mountains, Giurlà grows up - and here he experiences love for the first time. A love he never thought possible, a love unlike any he has ever known.
