Guy de Maupassant (1850-1893) wrote a multitude of stories in addition to his famous novels like "Bel Ami." This collection features some of the author's best texts, including "The Devil" and "The Horla." The novella, an excellent example of the psychological ghost story, was created under the influence of anxiety and delusions resulting from Maupassant's excessive drug abuse, and it reads like a precursor to his mental breakdown in 1893.
