Product details
Are we morally obligated to provide our bodily substances and organs to sick individuals? Are we allowed to sell our kidneys, or should we donate them altruistically without compensation? Unlike external goods, one's own body and its parts have traditionally not been subject to demands for solidarity or even distributive justice. Rather, the human body has been viewed both as a medium of the person and as a boundary to the outside world. In the face of harmful intrusions by third parties as well as from oneself, morality and law have declared the human living body to be largely unavailable. With the increasing commodification of body parts, the factual availability of the human body also calls into question its normative unavailability. This study addresses this issue.
