The healthcare market is in motion. In addition to the effectiveness of a medical intervention for the patient, its benefits and particularly its costs are becoming increasingly significant. With the enactment of the law to strengthen competition in statutory health insurance since April 1, 2007, the industry is faced with the evaluation of these last two parameters. The author Jörg-Guido Müller identifies the influencing factors that are becoming more important for companies in the healthcare sector. Alongside legal foundations such as the Pharmaceutical Supply Economic Efficiency Act and the law to strengthen competition in statutory health insurance, internationally accepted methods are presented as a basis for evaluations. In this context, the concepts of Evidence-Based Medicine and Health Technology Assessment are particularly emphasized.
