The development of the German hospital landscape into service-oriented enterprises requires all healthcare facilities to operate economically and implement quality assurance measures. Healthcare in the 21st century demands continuous, economically viable, and high-quality care. To support these requirements, a new reimbursement system, the German Diagnosis Related Groups (G-DRG), has been in use since 2003. This new reimbursement system is the key to greater efficiency, quality, and competition. However, this alone is not sufficient to meet the increasingly complex demands. Another component is the systematic approach to process consideration, which is to be ensured in nursing through the application of the nursing process. Meanwhile, nursing fields of action are characterized by a high level of complexity.
