These six lectures, delivered by Karl Jaspers in Basel in 1947, represent an important complement to his major works. In an extraordinarily clear conception, they outline the relationship between philosophy and metaphysical belief, as well as its distortions such as belief in demons and nihilism. At the same time, they provide a very concentrated presentation of the starting points and fundamental content of Jaspers' thought.
