Product details

Trauma clients are generally not adequately prepared for the stresses that arise during trauma therapy. Their nervous system is weakened, and the usual interventions do not make it more resilient. Additionally, a trauma client oscillates between fear and panic on one side and numbness on the other. Addressing this issue requires a less reactive nervous system, along with heightened alertness and perception. The client needs greater affect tolerance. Pranayama, a system of breathing exercises in yoga, fosters this affect tolerance. It raises the threshold levels in the nervous system, making the trauma client more resilient and their nervous system more robust against stimuli. A process based on Pranayama, known in yoga as Pratyahara, utilizes this newly established affect tolerance and leads to a corresponding state.
