The Abduction of Persephone is a well-known story from Greek mythology. Persephone, originally Kore and the daughter of Demeter, is abducted by Hades, the god of the underworld. In her grief and sorrow, Demeter prevents the plants from growing, which ultimately forces Zeus to intervene, as he wants to prevent the world from perishing from hunger. Persephone thus returns from the underworld, but only for part of the year. Richard Foerster has taken on this story in all its details.
