Using a ring that has been preserved to this day, the servant Guda narrates the life story of her mistress, Saint Elisabeth of Thuringia. Elisabeth came to Thuringia in the 13th century as the daughter of a Hungarian king. There, she married the landgrave of Thuringia. From a young age, she rejected the privileges that were due to her and dedicated herself to helping the poor and sick in her community. Cast out by her deceased husband's family, she used her inheritance to build a large hospital in Marburg. She died there at the age of 24 after dedicating all her strength to caring for lepers and outcasts.
