The "Sansibar Archipelago," consisting of two volumes, combines the results of the research expedition conducted by Dr. Oscar Baumann with the support of the Leipzig Geographical Society in 1895/1896. Volume 1, "The Island of Mafia and Its Smaller Neighboring Islands," presents for the first time a coherent scientific account, along with a detailed map based on careful observations of this German East African island. The descriptions in Volume 2, "The Island of Zanzibar and Its Smaller Neighboring Islands," do not claim to be exhaustive. It would not be possible to fully capture the significance of the island within the narrow confines of a single treatise. A more in-depth representation of the island has been attempted. In this regard, the treatise may primarily serve as a commentary to the map, which is the main focus.
