Product details
The Lasker-Tarrasch chess championship for the world title took place in August-September 1908, accompanied by an appendix on new studies of rook endgames by Siegbert Tarrasch. Siegbert Tarrasch (1862-1934 in Munich) was regarded as one of the world's best chess players. A championship match against Emanuel Lasker was finally arranged in 1908 after lengthy negotiations. By that time, Tarrasch had already passed his peak performance. The world championship match was held in Munich and Düsseldorf. Tarrasch suffered a surprisingly decisive defeat with a score of 3:8, including five draws, a loss he never fully overcame. Although he demanded a rematch, another competition with Lasker did not occur until 1916. In that match, which was not for the title, Tarrasch lost even more clearly (0:5 with 1 draw). Tarrasch was committed to establishing chess as a popular sport in Germany and contributed significantly to its popularity.
