Alfred Schütz makes a shift in his work from the reconstruction of subjective meaning (Max Weber) to the reconstruction of objective meaning in the analysis of everyday interactions. The meaningful structure of the social world is intended to provide an explicit phenomenological foundation for interpretive sociology (Luckmann). Schütz contributes fundamentally to the current discussion on symbolic interactionism in America and Europe, partly mediated through Cicourel. At the same time, his analysis of the constitution of the lifeworld is significant for establishing a social science based on the social and communicative processes of acting individuals.
