Product details

Brönnimann describes the emergence of the sociocrime novel in Germany in the late 1960s. At that time, a group of German authors approached crime literature with a new ambition. Their intention was to portray everyday life in West Germany realistically, analytically, and critically—following the theses of literary sociology, which had just established itself as a new science. Brönnimann illustrates how this task was accomplished by examining selected crime novels by Horst Bosetzky, the founder of the so-called German sociocrime. One of the key pioneers of German sociocrime was the Swedish author duo Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö. Their ten-volume novel series "Roman um ein Verbrechen" made a significant contribution to the development of sociocrime. In this work, Brönnimann dedicates a special chapter to them. Sociocrime novels have shown and continue to show that a serious societal analysis can be seamlessly blended with elements of entertainment and suspense literature.
