Product details

The German electricity market has repeatedly faced accusations of manipulation in the past. This work aims to demonstrate the extent to which insider trading and market manipulation are possible, particularly at the electricity exchange, and what measures can be taken to prevent them. The over-the-counter market will also be considered, as commodity derivative markets exhibit different characteristics compared to actual securities transactions. The author shows that it is particularly possible to influence the electricity exchange from the over-the-counter market with electricity derivatives and vice versa. Additionally, there is an even closer connection between derivatives and physical electricity transactions than is the case with securities. As a result, the instruments regulated by the Securities Trading Act to enhance market integrity do not apply to all commodity markets.
