With terrorism, our Western world system is scarred by a new form of warfare that was once thought impossible. Terror stands in stark contrast to the ideals we celebrate as freedom. An escalation of the conflict is therefore preprogrammed. Militarily, we are prepared. Mentally, we are not. We are aware of the intellectual treasures of humanity. We know the examples of such situations that have always existed—at least in similar forms. We did not want to acknowledge them anymore. The shock of our awakening is all the more alarming. The book highlights what is essential to consider, drawing on completely opposing systems, eras, and philosophers, as well as entirely different events. These examples could shed light on some of the darkness in our system before it is too late due to arrogance and simultaneous mental-emotional neglect.
