The Russians refer to everything beyond Siberia as the Far East. Ullrich Wannhoff has been traveling to the Kamchatka Peninsula in the East Asian part of Russia for many years. His stories recount the opening of Kamchatka in 1991 and describe his cautious and adventurous exploration of this vast peninsula. The many encounters with various peoples, the indigenous peoples of Russia, particularly the Koryaks, give Wannhoff insight into both sedentary and nomadic life in the Far East.
