It’s hot in Western Australia, and it’s about to get even hotter: Gordon Wellard, suspected of murdering a missing 15-year-old girl, is chasing Cato Kwong through Fremantle. However, instead of the allegedly buried body, Cato only finds a pig carcass riddled with carpenter's nails. Shortly thereafter, a restaurant owner who refused to pay protection money is found dead with similar nails in his back. The quickly identified perpetrator apparently dies in a bushfire. But when Cato is soon kidnapped and threatened with a nail gun, it becomes clear how much the police themselves are threatened and entangled. At the same time, Cato's colleague Lara Sumich is investigating the murder of undercover cop Santo Rosetti, who had his throat slit after a blowjob in a nightclub bathroom. However, her investigations are being manipulated, and Lara herself becomes involved.
