The newly forming and highly differentiating field of design science has the potential to be a revolutionary discipline. Influenced by the material turn and the design turn, it addresses a domain that connects artistic insights with user experiences, everyday knowledge, and functional purposes. To view design scientifically means, in this sense, to think about design as a whole. The handbook offers fundamental chapters on the concept of design as well as the history of design science and provides information on its methods and practices.
