The permeability between vocational and higher education is one of the major topics in current education policy and poses challenges for both educational sectors. Graduates of vocational education seek part-time study options and require different foundations to decide on a course of study and to build confidence in their ability to succeed, due to their greater responsibilities for family members stemming from their biographies. The design of transitions can be understood as a response to the question of "how" to improve permeability. Measures such as counseling services, bridging courses, tutorials, flexible scheduling and locations for study programs, or a teaching approach that connects and integrates with professional experience make a significant contribution to this.
