In the densely populated urban centers of Japan, small houses with unusual spatial concepts and surprising floor plan solutions are emerging on seemingly unbuildable narrow plots. But it is not only this sensitivity to space that captivates architects outside Japan; the sensual handling of materials, the sense of aesthetics, and the skillful integration of traditional elements are equally fascinating. The fact that most constructive solutions do not meet Central European standards is secondary: it is the innovative approaches that serve as a source of inspiration.
