The American Eugene A. Nida (1914 - 2011) is regarded as the initiator and pioneer of modern dynamic-equivalent Bible translation. Since the 1960s, a large number of Bible translations have been created worldwide using this method. In Germany, this includes the Good News Translation and Hope for All, among others. Stefan Felber presents a comprehensive account of Nida's life and work for the first time. The focus of interest is on the translation theory developed and promoted by Nida, which Felber critically examines; he outlines the relationship between Nida's theory and the generative transformational grammar of linguist Noam A. Chomsky and sketches Nida's global significance for Bible translation over the past fifty years.
